Rare Need to Operate in the Manual Control Mode
In the rare event that the Automatic Control Mode does not provide adequate control of the infant’s esophageal temperature, the Blanketrol II unit operation will be changed to the Manual Control Mode. This change will be made only after cooling has been ongoing for at least 4 hours and esophageal temperature fluctuation around the Setpoint of 33.5°C is greater than 2°C.
A. Record the esophageal and blanket/water temperatures at 10-min intervals over a 1-hour period. The midpoint of the observed blanket/water temperatures during this time period will be the initial SETPOINT in the Manual Control Mode.
approaches the Setpoint.
C. Continue the Blanketrol II unit operation in the Manual Control Mode for the remainder of the 72-hour cooling period.
